Visits to the humane society

never end in complete happiness.
I had convinced Jon (pretty easily) to accompany me on a visit to the nearest animal humane society. This took place last Monday, when we had no knowledge of the damn blizzard approaching. WELP, we woke up from our slumber and were still in the mood to go see the cute critters. Not quite sure why, exactly, we wanted to go - but it probably had something to do with the fact that we both love animals and want a pet, but we're unsure about what exactly would be the best fit for our 1 bedroom apartment. No matter how bad we may want one - we know we should always consider the happiness of the animal, first and foremost. Growing up on a farm, there were animals everywhere - cats, dogs, pigs, chickens, cows, geese, ducks, raccoons and the occasional possum. Taking care of them came like second nature and never did it ever seem to me, a chore. Jon, on the other hand, had always wanted a dog when he was young. Being that he lived in town, I don't blame his parents. When he was about 10, however, he did get a robotic, pet dog for Christmas - He said that after a while he got so annoyed that down the stairs it went. Well, they still have it - and it's still as obnoxious as ever.
Anyways, I digress; we bravely ventured out on this day and safely arrived at the shelter. The first cutie to catch our wandering eyes was a 4 month old, tabby, named Lenny: white with orange spots and little, white fur sprouting from his ears (pictured to the right). It was love at first sight. Just like 2 more dogs we had seen all caged up. I had tears in my eyes a couple of times - just like evvvvvery other time I visit (which really isn't thaaaat often). But, I believe that every animal deserves a good home and we have a lot to offer...currently, we're growing a little disenchanted with our current 'pets' - a squirrel, residing outside of our window, that we like to call, Ralph. He likes to carry bread, by the slice up the tree, to his little hibernation station: fatty. Another is Leonard - a spider - who is only seen once a month peaking out of a crack in our ceiling (we felt bad because we 'accidently' killed his brother/sister/mother/father?...etc...back in the fall - and, finally, Xenia, our plant - who is ohSO high maintenance. On the contrary, it doesn't take much to love a plant. We'll see what happens in the (hopefully near) future. And, as always, I'll keep ya posted.
